I’m not a health guru, but I do prefer to eat healthy. I have healthy eating habits by the healthiest of organic foodies. That’s not a problem for me.
The problem is that I have sat in front of the computer for two years without keeping fit. Sure, I’ve started and stopped dozens of times, but when I decided to change the structure of my life, and pursue an internet business, I didn’t continue to stay in shape.
Until One Day I Asked Katie, “Honey, Do You Think I’m Getting Fat?”
It really doesn’t matter what she said. I don’t even remember her reply. This was an all-time low point.
I used to pride myself on staying lean, mean and capable of competing with the “younger-than-me athletes.” I’ve always been an athlete. From running to swimming to baseball and basketball to hiking and aerobics at the local gym, I play and compete.
So what happened?
Well, I put ALL of my focus on building an internet business.
I took that same competitive, never-accept-a-loss attitude and applied it to my entrepreneurial ventures. As a result, I neglected my body by not taking my supplements or showing up to the gym to strengthen and tone my muscles or keep cardiovascularly fit.
And really, the deeper issue here is balance. It’s the same issue that crept with balance when Katie said to me early in my internet business pursuits, “You Love Your Laptop More than Me.”
About six months ago I was staring at myself in the mirror after I got out of the shower. I couldn’t help but notice the love handles, that little extra around my sides.
When you have to ask if someone thinks you’re fat, it means you are consciously aware that you are no longer in peak physical shape. I’m 34 and in the worst shape of my life. It’s not pride, it’s health. Being physically healthy is important.
As I build my Zero to Internet Business (I’ve starting from scratch as of April 15th), I’m also going to get back into peak physical shape. This blog is about a holistic approach to building an internet business. It represents all that is involved in life success, not just monetary success from my internet business.
Today I ran one mile, and spent 20 minutes in the weight room. Not a big deal if compared to what I used to do. But my goal now is NOT to go over board to early. It’s about being able to finish strong. My goal is to re-develop my life-long commitment to good physical health.
I’ll be blogging all about the workouts I create, the supplements I take and the way I eat, and probably a few things in-between that focus on health.
On Saturday, September 11 2010, I’ll be running in an 8 mile race in northern Michigan. It’s the 40th Annual Mackinac Island Eight Mile Run & Walk.
